I’m thinking about upgrading to iCloud+ and sharing the storage with my family. Will everyone still have their own private iCloud space, or will we be able to see one another’s photos, files, and backups? I only want to share the storage plan, not our personal content.
Yeah that’s exactly how it works actually, everyone keeps their own Apple Account and their own private space, photos/files/backups stay completely separate. sharing iCloud+ just pools the storage capacity together so nobody has to buy their own plan, it doesn’t merge or expose anyone’s actual content

wasn’t looking forward to explaining to everyone why their photos would suddenly show up for the whole family lol. quick follow up though, can the organizer still track how much space everyone’s burning through individually or does that stay hidden too?
whoever manages the plan can pull up how much GB each person’s using, just can’t open what’s actually in it. also there’s a separate toggle called Purchase Sharing that people mix up with this one, that shares app and subscription purchases instead, has nothing to do with storage. Apple lays out the storage side pretty clearly here if you want to double check
One thing nobody’s brought up yet, worth thinking about which plan size to actually get too. Went with the 200GB one for me and my parents, $2.99 a month total split three ways beats each of us paying for our own 50GB plan separately. Plenty of room even with three people’s photos going in
@JamieOnline lol if anyone in the family’s even remotely a photographer or films stuff constantly, don’t even bother with 200GB, just get 2TB now and save yourself the pain, $9.99 total isn’t bad split across everyone. Speaking from experience, thought 200GB would last us forever, it did not
2TB it is then, no way I’m doing this upgrade conversation with my family twice lol
